The Kehillah Rams boys’ basketball team saved their best performance for last on Sunday afternoon, defeating the JCHS Wolves 54-46 in the annual Golden Tallis Game at the Oshman Family JCC.
After the Rams jumped out to an 8–0 lead, JCHS started to play better and caught up until the Rams hung on to a one point lead (14 – 13) at the end of the first-quarter.
The game was essentially won during the second and third quarters. Zac Jenkins got into some foul trouble, picking up his third foul midway through the second quarter. At this point, Ben Rhein gave the Rams a big lift while Zac was on the bench. Even though he was scoreless, he enabled Kehillah to run the offense without Zac and played solid defense. The Rams to increase the lead to seven (28 – 21) at half time.
According to Coach Ed Campbell, “the third quarter was our best. We had good team offense and defense. It was probably our best defensive rebounding quarter of the season as well. We outscored them by four points, increasing the lead to 11 at the end of the quarter. “
JCHS made a nice run in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Rams who executed well against their press to win the game.
Congratulations to the Boys’ basketball team and thank you to our seniors, Braden Katzman and Jeremy Goldberg for their dedication and commitment to Kehillah Basketball!
Unfortunately, the Lady Rams fell short against the Wolves in an earlier game at the OFJCC. JCHS came out strong and although the girls were getting some good looks at the basket, shots weren’t falling. The lady rams entered half time down by 11.
The Rams came out strong in the second half. A few lay-ups from Junior, Leah LeVine, sparked the girls to begin to chip away at the lead. Junior, Eliza Cohen was strong inside, drawing fouls and making free throws. In the fourth quarter, the rams caught up making it a one point game however, they were unable to capture the lead and the Wolves pulled away for the win. Everyone did a tremendous job but it wasn’t enough to bring home the Golden Tallis this year. Hats off to Seniors Sara Cramer and Kalli Smith who both played their hearts out in their last game in Kehillah blue. We will miss you!
